6 Degrees of Appreciation

What is it? A playlist and reference point for my radio gig on CFRC that links musicians and bands with other entertainers like they do actors with Kevin Bacon. This is done largely through shared venues, record labels, musical influences, geographical origins, and rogue band members. Tune in every Tuesday from 1:30 to 3:00 PM EST, or download the archives from www.cfrc.ca!

June 19, 2007-Indie by Alphabet

Ok, so last night I ended up drinking way too much as the evening began at a CFRC beer tasting down at the Brew Pub here in k-town and ended with a celebration of our pal, Jenni's, birthday at the Plaza (aka sketch-hole). The consequences were that my stuff I had prepped for today's show was left at home, whereas I stayed downtown at my man, Dave's, place 'cause drinkin' and drivin' went out with James Dean. So, when I got to the station, I pulled new indie off the stacks in alphabetical order and here's what I got...

***Lucille-Emperor Penguin
Acid Rainbow-Pants Dants
Chocolate Robots-No Clue
Datarock-I used to Dance with my Daddy
Erick von Erick and the Raving Psychos-Self Therapy 101
The Fussy Part-Near You
Got to Get Got-Blood Test
Hotshotrobot-Dogs
Immaculate Machine-Dear Confessor
The Junction-Put the Hammer Down
The Klaxons-Two Receivers
***Lucille-Anti-Social Tendencies
Miracle Fortress-Whirrs
The Neins Circa-Ave Corinne
Orientalists-The Razor
The Postage Stamps-Turning off
The Rosebuds-Cemetary Lawns
Superfantastics-Tonight Tonite
Trans Am-Obscene Strategies
Voxtrot-Kid Gloves

Ok, so I also featured a little ***Lucille, formerly Lederhosen Lucil, and otherwise known as Krista Muir. She'll be playing the Artel this Thursday to kick off Kingston's annual Skeleton Park Music Festival. It's totally free and totally cool, so if you're in town, do check out some of the kick ass local musicians like Krista, Nich Worby, and Knock Knock Ginger as well as local artisans (like my boyfriend Dave and his fantastic chain maille, Graymalkin's Wireworks. For more info, you can tune into CFRC 101.9 fm or www.cfrc.ca all week, or go online to Skeleton Park Music Festival.

Ok, so The Rollins Band and Korn both played at last year's Download Festival in the UK. Korn frontman, Jonathan Davis, wrote the theme music for Queen of the Damned, but do to contract issues, the music was performed by The Disturbed amongst others. The Disturbed were on the mainstage of last year's Ozzfest along side um...Ozzy, who was inducted into the UK's rock hall of fame the same year as Pink Floyd who reunited for their last big show at the London Live 8 in 2005, a massive gig that also featured the Stereophonics.
